Online counselling by video consultation with Patricia Bust

Psychotherapy and couples therapy

Online counselling

Video session

Online counselling or video coaching makes psychological help possible even when you, as a client I already know, cannot or do not wish to attend a psychotherapeutic session at my practice.

Psychological counselling as an online session can also be helpful if the physical distance makes it easier for you to open up.

Which topics can I address in the video
consultation?

The main topics I offer in the video consultation for clients who are still new are:

  • Support with personal or professional conflicts
  • Clarifying your personal or professional life situation
  • Fear of commitment & fear of relationships
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Conflicts in a couple
  • Family conflicts
  • Communication problems
  • Stress management and burnout prevention
  • Work-life balance and improving your quality of life
  • Professional development or change
  • Realising your own goals
  • Strengthening self-esteem
  • High sensitivity
  • Personal growth

Clients who have already come to my practice for an initial consultation can attend psychotherapeutic sessions online if they should fall ill without severe symptoms. That way the psychotherapy can continue and is not interrupted for too long.

Is my data protected?

To protect your data, online appointments take place exclusively via an encrypted video platform that meets the current data protection regulations.

WhatsApp, Skype or Zoom cannot be used. The Jameda-Docplanner platform I use is, however, very straightforward. A session usually lasts 50 minutes.

You can find more information about the methods I use in the corresponding section of this website.

How does online counselling or online therapy work?

Once the appointment has been arranged, which you can also do through the online calendar on my website, I will invite you into my virtual practice with a link. If it is a first “meeting”, we can discuss your concern as well as the frequency and regularity of any work together.

Although getting to know each other in person is more intensive for psychotherapy at my practice, the distance can make some things easier online when it comes to overcoming inhibitions.

For an online session, the fee should be transferred by PayPal, at the latest on the morning of the same day, to the account: praxis@psychotherapie-bust.de.

What should you bear in mind with online counselling?

Because there is no opportunity to meet in person on site, working together online is not suitable for every person and every concern.

Online counselling is possible if there are no indications of an acute, serious crisis, of mental illness requiring treatment or of suicidality. Should that only become apparent in the course of our work together, I would refer you on to suitable services.

Technical requirements

  • You should have a device with internet access running Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, iOS or Android and a broadband connection speed of at least 1 Mbit/s.
  • The latest version of Chrome or another internet browser must be installed on the device, together with all the required applications, so that the patient can connect to the video call.
  • The latest version of Javascript on the device.
  • The minimum screen resolution is 1024 × 768 pixels for those using a web browser.

Last but not least, when you open the video call link, you should check the connection, image and audio details of your device step by step. This is a mandatory step before every connection, so that any error is spotted before the video call is started.

Finally, please note that if you have an antivirus program installed and have not configured the permissions for sharing images and audio, you will need to open the settings of the antivirus application to confirm these permissions.

If you have any questions or come across any errors, please do not hesitate to contact me or visit the jameda Help Center . There you will find further information about the video consultation and about how to solve problems with the microphone and the camera.

Are there limits to online counselling?

Under German law, psychotherapy is a protected term and may only be carried out in personal contact. Psychological online counselling is therefore not psychotherapy within the meaning of the Psychotherapeutengesetz (German Psychotherapists Act). In some cases online counselling is also not the right and appropriate support, and the client needs treatment in person on site instead. You will surely understand that I therefore reserve the right to decline enquiries in certain circumstances.
