Couples therapy in Hannover City
Overcoming crises and finding new ways forward…
Overcoming crises, fostering mutual understanding or accepting a failure peacefully so that something new can grow – this is precisely where professional couples therapy in Hannover can be a valuable support.
For most people, a happy and fulfilling relationship is the most important foundation in life. If, however, you find yourselves caught in seemingly unsolvable conflicts in your partnership, stuck in a dead end or suffering from serious communication problems, turning to couples counselling is a courageous and right step for your shared development.
As an experienced couples therapist in Hannover, I have been at your side for over 15 years as an empathetic translator, mediator and coach in my private practice right in the centre of Hannover (City).
Systemic couples therapy and marriage counselling in Hannover
As a certified systemic therapist, I do not view your relationship in isolation. Together we take a close look at the dynamics and influences of your families of origin on your present situation as a couple and as a family.
Unconscious, dysfunctional patterns often play out in relationships. Emotions and injuries from the past suddenly surface in inappropriate ways in present-day situations. Recognising and understanding these imprints helps you to see your partner’s behaviour in a completely new light and to heal old wounds.
In my practice for marriage counselling and couples therapy in Hannover I place great emphasis on:
- Active participation: We work together on concrete solutions for your everyday life.
- Psychoeducation: I explain the psychological mechanisms behind your conflicts to you.
- Practical methods: Role plays, new communication techniques and facilitated dialogue are an integral part of couples coaching.
- Resource orientation: We regard your current “problems” as important developmental tasks.
Scientifically grounded methods for your relationship
My therapeutic work is based on my in-depth diploma thesis on “Konfliktregelung in der psychosozialen Arbeit mit Paaren” (Conflict Management in Psychosocial Work with Couples) as well as a four-year, intensive systemic training course including supervision and constellation work. For my couples therapy in Hannover I draw on an integrative toolbox of renowned scientific approaches:
- Communication & conflict: Nonviolent Communication (after Rosenberg), the Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work (John Gottman), Zwiegespräche, structured couple dialogues (after Möller), and the escalation dynamics of conflict (after Prof. Dr. Glasl).
- Depth & attachment: Attachment therapy (after Brisch/Bowlby), transactional analysis (Eric Berne) and the systemic therapy of the Heidelberg School (among others in the tradition of Paul Watzlawick and Helm Stierlin).
- Intimacy & sexuality: Concepts of passion and desire in long-term relationships (after David Schnarch, Ulrich Clement and Esther Perel).
Thanks to my many years of experience and my own perspective as a married, working woman and mother, I combine scientific expertise with genuine life experience.
Typical issues in couples therapy and couples counselling
Couples come to my practice in Hannover Mitte with very different concerns. Frequent focal points of our work together are:
- Communication problems: Sentences such as “You simply don’t understand me”, or when one partner falls silent (“He doesn’t talk, she only talks”, or the other way round).
- Emotional injuries: Loss of trust through infidelity, a one-off affair, cheating or a concealed relationship outside the partnership.
- Power & dynamics: Daily battles over who is right, the feeling of power and control instead of respect, appreciation and care.
- Closeness & distance: Jealousy, emotional dependencies, fears, shame as well as challenges in physical intimacy and sexuality.
- Emotional injuries: Loss of trust through infidelity, a one-off affair, cheating or a concealed relationship outside the partnership.
How it works: from the initial consultation to lasting success
The first step is often the hardest. That is why the process at my practice in Hannover is designed to be as transparent as possible for you:
- The initial consultation: This is where we get to know one another. After all, the most important thing for the success of couples therapy is that “the chemistry is right”. Afterwards you are entirely free to decide whether you would like to continue the counselling.
- The follow-up appointments: For follow-up sessions I recommend a duration of 90 minutes. At the beginning, intervals of no more than 14 days are ideal. Later on the sessions can take place monthly, so that you have enough time to put what we have discussed into practice in everyday life.
- The couples therapy intensive day: If you are in an acute crisis, have a longer journey to Hannover or would like to work on your relationship particularly quickly and intensively, you can also book an exclusive intensive day at my practice.
Let us untangle the knot together. Contact me now for a no-obligation initial consultation in person in Hannover or for a video session.
