Hypnosis
“Each person is a unique individual. Psychotherapy should therefore be formulated in such a way that it does justice to the uniqueness of an individual’s needs, rather than trimming the person down to fit the Procrustean bed of a hypothetical theory of human behaviour.”
Milton Erickson 1979
Therapeutic hypnosis is one of the oldest therapeutic methods and a very effective one, and it has been recognised as a scientifically founded method. It is not to be confused with so-called “stage hypnosis”. Hypnotherapy is defined as a psychotherapeutic method that uses the induction of hypnotic trance as an altered state of consciousness. In this way, problematic cognitions, problematic behaviour and affective patterns can be changed. Emotionally distressing sensations can be restructured, which promotes biological changes and healing processes.
As a Heilpraktikerin für Psychotherapie (state-licensed psychotherapy practitioner) I offer exclusively hypnosis / trance in which you, as the person being treated, always remain in charge of your own decisions. By making contact with the unconscious, it becomes possible to uncover repressed conflicts, to steer particular patterns of behaviour and to influence a wide variety of psychological processes positively.
Possible applications of hypnosis and hypnosis therapy
Anxieties and phobias, depression, relaxation training, bulimia, eating disorders, fear of flying, weight loss, claustrophobia, improving concentration, stage fright, migraine, phobias, positive thinking, exam anxiety, giving up smoking, sleep disorders, gambling addiction, self-confidence, activating self-healing powers, self-esteem, obsessive-compulsive disorders
Contraindications for hypnotherapy are severe personality disorders and acute psychoses. Because of the risk of false memories and induced distortions, hypnotherapy is not a method with which repressed childhood traumas could be brought to light. With traumatised people and victims of abuse, particular attention must be paid to ensuring that patients retain control over the trance and over the content worked on within it. In such cases I would always prefer trauma therapy, working with screening and EMDR.
Under the further-training regulations of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hypnose, the Milton Erickson Gesellschaft für klinische Hypnose and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ärztliche Hypnose und Autogenes Training, all the known curricula of these professional associations require prior basic psychotherapeutic training or a medical licence (Approbation) and several years of professional practice. As a Heilpraktikerin für Psychotherapie and systemic therapist/family therapist, I acquired the fundamentals in 2013 at the Paracelsusschule with Thomas Schnura and have used them ever since, when there is reason to do so, in my private practice in Hannover.
